Umajati Retreat has two elegantly converted Javanese teak homes providing 21st century living in 19th century houses. Each is in its own garden setting, providing full privacy when renting just one house. Together, both houses offer a wonderful retreat for an extended family of group of friends.
The first house has 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed and the other with a king-size bed that can be arranged as twin beds. In the house’s great room, a full-single sized day bed accommodates a fifth guest. Each bed has its own elegant mosquito net. The second house has one air-conditioned bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a wide-single bed in the great room. All beds are draped in romantic mosquito nets.
Each bedroom has a full en suite bathroom, and from each great room there is access to a bathroom. There are complimentary soaps and shampoos from the islands best makers of handmade soaps. Hair dryers are provided.
The center of the property hosts a 15-meter lap pool, with a shallow corner for relaxing. The pool is nestled within the gardens, and surrounded by a shade deck and sunny patio area, with chairs for lounging.
Each house has its own kitchen from where an extensive complimentary breakfast is served, and a range of meals may be ordered for lunch and dinner. Dishes may be chosen from an extensive cookbook of recipes with which the cooks are familiar. Vegetarian dishes are a specialty.
Each house has a large dining table in the great room, and the 1-bedroom house has a further open-air option sat a table on its river-view patio.
Pavilions and Porches
Each house has a wrap-around porch. Every bedroom has its own private garden. For the 2-bedroom house, a table and chairs by the kitchen offer a relaxed view of the lotus pond. At the 1-bedroom house, a cosy pavilion looks back to the house and down into the wooded river valley.
The gardens around the houses have been sensitively landscaped to bring the colors and fragrance of the tropics into all internal and external living spaces. Beds of red gingers, ivory lilies, and yellow iris set off borders of orange heliconia, white gardenia and jasmine. Orchids and epiphytes drape the limbs of a dozen frangipani trees and, in its season, the scarlet flame tree is a vision.
